Pat Buchanan Hopes Women Are Never Elected President
During an episode this past Sunday of the McLaughlin Group host John McLaughlin sat down with panelist Eleanor Clift and Pat Buchanan and asked them about when we would see a women president. When Mclaughlin asked Buchanan to “cut to the chase” and give a specific time, the commentator answered “2040 or 2050“ and broke out in laughter and afterwards stated “lets hope so.” He later stated that he was joking with the comment but still stood by his belief that it would take be a long time before a women was elected.
Of course Pat Buchanan’s “women are inferior” schtick isn’t new. In his 1998 book, Right From the Beginning, he wrote:
Real liberators of American women were not feminist noisemakers; they were the automobile, the supermarket, the shopping center, the dishwasher, the washer-dryer, the freezer, the garbage disposal and frozen food.
These most recent comments may be proof that Buchanan’s view of women is the same, but that doesn’t make his sexism excusable.
